A clean, sealed air-intake system is essential for engine life. Dust getting past the filter can wear cylinders, piston rings, turbochargers and valves very quickly, while a blocked filter can cause black smoke, loss of power, high fuel consumption and overheating.
Never run a diesel engine for extended periods without its air filter. In dusty working conditions, even a short period of unfiltered running can cause serious wear.

1. Check the Restriction Indicator
